Cold Plate Technologies: Thermal Performance When and Where It's Needed

As with our efficient heat spreaders, our cold plate solutions offer several options to help you obtain the optimum thermal performance for protecting high-tech equipment and electronics.

Heat spreader cold plates give you high-efficiency heat transfer without moving parts in space and weight-constrained applications through compact Thermacore technology. Heat spreader cold plates transfer heat from sources such as electronic components, rejecting it to ambient air (through forced or natural convection) or liquid coolants (water, glycol/water mixtures, dielectric fluids, polyalphaolefin or PAO). These types of cold plates are well suited for operating in harsh environments, including extreme temperatures/humidity, shock and vibration. Aavid Thermacore offers a variety of heat spreading technologies that provide significant improvement in solution-effective thermal conductivities. These heat spreading technologies include: advanced solid conduction (k-Core®), embedded heat pipe cold plates and vapour chamber assemblies. For cooling high-power semiconductors and other demanding applications where air cooling is inadequate and you need liquid cooling (lasers, power generation, medical equipment, transportation, military electronics), Aavid Thermacore liquid cooled cold plates can be the answer.

Aavid Thermacore's custom liquid cooling component cold plates include tube-in-plate, aluminium vacuum-brazed and copper brazed types for various applications. Tube-in-plate cold plate materials consist of copper or stainless steel tubes pressed into a channelled aluminium or copper extrusion or machined plate. Aavid Thermacore also offers copper cold plates that incorporate vertical fin (micro-channel) technology or, for higher performance, our specialised powdered metal construction. Aavid Thermacore's custom liquid-cooled assemblies are designed specifically for each application's unique thermal/mechanical requirements.

Specialty engineered, high-thermal-performance aluminium vacuum-brazed cold plate technology from Aavid Thermacore is engineered to match your requirements for thermal/mechanical performance, pressure drop and dimensions. Aavid Thermacore customises the internal flow configuration to maximise heat transfer and minimise cold plate pressure drop. The cold plates, available in many shapes and sizes, can incorporate embedded heat pipes for enhanced performance. Application-specific surface finish requirements and mounting hole locations are also available, and working fluids can be water, air, water/glycol and PAO.
